Librarian Liaisons

Faculty Services Home | Need an ID card to access materials?

Under the library's liaison program, each faculty member is assigned a librarian who can help with requests for research or materials to support teaching and scholarship. This help ranges from database searching and tracking down esoteric materials to handling in-depth research project and working with faculty research assistants. Research librarians also offer customized sessions on use of the Internet and other electronic sources as well as in-class research presentations.

The liaison serves as the faculty member's first point of contact with the library. To schedule an appointment, please contact your liaison.

Bibliographies

Liaisons will prepare bibliographies on topics related to faculty scholarship provided the faculty member allows sufficient lead time, especially if the scope of the bibliography is extensive. Faculty members should contact their liaisons for further information.

Suggesting Items for Purchase

The library purchases materials to support faculty research. To suggest materials for purchase, faculty members should contact their liaison. Faculty members will be notified when titles they request arrive.

Borrowing

Faculty members may check out any materials from the Pierce Law Library for an indefinite period of time. The library reserves the right to recall materials when another patron has requested them. Faculty members may check out materials in person or through their Research Assistants.

A quick check of MelCat, the library's online catalog, will tell faculty members if they can obtain titles in the Pierce Law Library collection. For titles that are not in the library's own collection, faculty members may request an interlibrary loan from another library by contacting Barry Shanks.

Research Assistants

Authorized Research Assistants of Pierce Law faculty may access library services to support faculty scholarship. These services include research consultation and instruction, photocopying and interlibrary loan, and proxy check-out privileges. With the permission of the faculty member, research assistants may borrow books in the name of the faculty member and will be assigned a code which they can use to make copies of library materials for work-related purposed. Authorization forms are available from Paula Jewell. Research assistants are welcome to contact the faculty liaison for help with library-related questions.
